Biography
American activist, he was a pioneer in the gay rights movement. In 1969 he and his colleagues established the Gay Liberation Front. Two years later, 1971, he opened the Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center in Los Angeles. He served on the Los Angeles County Human Rights Commission for 20 years, retiring in 2002. During his lifetime he amassed a fine collection of gay history and art.
He died January 19, 2003 at a Los Angeles hospice.
