Biography

Australian-born politician with noted spouse. She is the wife of the Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea; the only woman parliamentarian in the current Papua New Guinea Government.

Born into a middle-class Australian family, she fell in love wtih a Papuan lad, the school captain, named Buri Kidu. They were just teenagers at the time and waited until 1969 to get married. Shortly after their marriage, they settled in Buri's home village near Port Moresby, New Guinea. Overcoming many obstacles, he became a chief justice of the fledgling nation Papua New Guinea. Despite the hurdles presented by a small village in which she seemed at first like an outsider, she became an advocate for women and the disadvantaged.
