Biography
Finnish film director who collaborated with his older brother, Mika, dividing their work according to a carefully observed schedule to save funds and optimize time with equipment and crews. With films full of absurd humor and comical plots, they started as thorns in the side of the entertainment industry. Their popularity eventually made them leading figures, helping to place Finnish cinema recognized abroad.
By 1990, Aki has been noted for seven films shown in New York City and his "Ariel," released in 1989, became a cult favorite. The brothers own specialized theaters in Helsinki and run the annual Midnight Sun Film Festival.
