Biography

German royalty, an administrator of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Strasbourg, and a Duke of Jägerndorf.

He was born to Joachim Frederick, Elector of Brandenburg, and his first wife Catherine of Brandenburg-Küstrin.

On 3 June 1610 he married Eva Christine of Württemberg (May 6, 1590 - March 18, 1657), the daughter of Duke Friedrich I of Württemberg (1593-1608) and Sibylla of Anhalt (1564-1614). They had the following children: Katharine Sibylle (1611-1612), Georg (1613-1614), Albrecht (1614-1620), Catherine Sibylle (1615-1615) and Ernst von Brandenburg (1617-1642).

John George of Brandenburg-Jägerndorf died on 2 March 1624.

Sy Scholfield quotes the chronicle of events in "Allgemeine preussische staats-geschichte, samt aller dazu gehörigen königreichs, churfürstenthums, herzogthümer, fürstenthümer, graf- und herrschaften, aus bewährten schriftstellern und urkunden bis auf gegenwärtige regierung," Volumes 3-4, by Karl Friedrich Pauli (C. P. Francken, 1762), p. 413: "Johann Georg, geboren, nicht den 6ten oder 26ten, sondern den 16ten Dec. 1577 um 4 Uhr Nachmittag zu Wolmirstedt." [Translation: John George, born, not on the 6th or 26th, but on the 16th Dec. 1577 at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at Wolmirstedt.]
