Biography

British scientist, physicist, inventor and experimental philosopher who was the greatest mechanic of his age. He also was a prolific theorist and investigator of such diverse fields as microscopy, optics, acoustics and cosmology. He coined the word "cell," and was best known for his formulation of "Hooke's Law of Elasticity."

Died in London on 3/03/1703.
