Biography
French composer who developed a precise style, and during the 1920s became one of "The Six," a group of French composers who rejected romanticism and impressionism. Creating a sensation in 1923 with his tone poem "Pacific 231," he was also famous for his oratorio "Jeanne Au Bucher," 1935. His compositions consisted of five symphonies, ballet music, chamber, orchestral and stage music, along with motion picture and radio dramas. Though associated with modern movement in French music, Honegger was more German in his musical approach. He is an author of an autobiography.
Honegger married pianist Andree Vaurabourg in 1926. He died on 11/27/1955, Paris, France.
