Australian activist and centenarian, a campaigner for peace and nuclear-non-proliferation. She vehemently protested involvement in VietNam in the 1950s and 1960s and founded a branch of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. In 2001 she was awarded the Order of Australia. She died peacefully on 10 September 2009 in Coffs Harbour, Australia.
Sy Scholfield quotes speculative data from the book "Margaret Holmes: The Life and Times of an Australian Peace Campaigner" (By Michelle Cavanagh; New Holland, 2006), p. 29, which states that Holmes was born in Sydney and that she "arrived in the wee small hours of Sunday 24 January 1909."
