Biography

American homicide, noted by the biography entitled "In Cold Blood," which was written by Truman Capote. A white male, average size and build, he had blond hair, blue eyes and a ruddy complexion. He worked as a car painter and mechanic, bringing in extra cash as a petty thief.

Hickock married Carol, the daughter of a Baptist preacher in July 1950, eloping together. They separated in 1956 and he made a second marriage to a pregnant girlfriend. He divorced twice and had a total of three sons.

While serving a jail sentence for burglary, Hickock met Perry Smith, a fellow cellmate. He was paroled on 8/13/1959. On 11/15/1959, after being released, the two men shot and killed the four members of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas after unsuccessfully ransacking their home for a non-existent bank-role.

He was tried and convicted of murder and went to the gallows on 4/14/1965 in Lansing, Kansas; he died at 00:41 AM CST.
