Biography

French royalty, the son of Jeanne d'Albret, Queen of Navarre, and Antoine de Bourbon, the first Bourbon king. Henri IV was a man of courage, vigor and intelligence who brought peace to the religious conflicts of his era by becoming Catholic in 1593. He was successful in war, declaring victory over the Spanish.

He succeeded Henri III in 1589, having married Marguerite de Valois (the third daughter of Henri II and Catherine de Medicis), in 1572. He divorced his wife in 1599 and married Marie de Medicis the following year. His youngest daughter by Marie was Henriette Marie, the Queen of Charles I of England.

He was assassinated on 5/14/1610 OS, Paris, France.
