Biography

American science-fiction writer, one of the first women in the genre to write under her own name without disguising her gender. She is author of "The People" series of stories and "The Pilgrimage."

Henderson was raised in a religious home and was a member of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, commonly known as the Mormons. After her 1940 graduation from Arizona State with a bachelor's degree in education, she became a teacher and taught for the rest of her life. In her spare time she wrote her sci-fi stories about "The People" which were published for three decades beginning in the 1950s. The stories had a spiritual element as "The People" were a race of spiritual beings.

In 1943 she married Richard Henderson, a non-Mormon but maintained her own strong faith and ties to her church.

She died on May 11, 1983, age 66.
