Biography
American pro baseball pitcher who has played in the American League for one year and the National League for seven years as of 1998. After attending Alabama-Birmingham College, Hammond was selected by the Cincinnati Reds organization in the sixth round free-agent draft pick 1/14/1986. Placed on the disabled list in 1991, he was traded to the Florida Marlins 3/27/1993 and has played for the Boston Red Sox, re-habbed in the AAA league and signed with the Kansas City Royals 1/12/1998.
Statistically he was named American Association Pitcher of the Year in 1990, one career major league grand slam and has appeared in two games as a pinch-runner and one game as a pinch-hitter.
Hammond has a brother, Steve, who plays outfield for the Kansas City Royals. At 6' 1", 195 lbs., he throws left and bats left.
