American astrologer, philosopher and author of over a hundred books and essays, the founder and president of the "Philosophical Research Society" in Los Angeles.
He had a Doctorate in Literature, was a 33rd Degree Mason and an occultist all of his life. His library had in excess of 50,000 books, manuscripts and artifacts, and Hall was a specialist in Oriental studies.
He was physically and mentally an immense man, exceptionally well-read, with a remarkable memory and speaking ability. Hall died on 8/29/1990, Hollywood, CA.
The Philosophical Research Society on Los Feliz, Hollywood has narrow library times, but one can travel to the "Philosophical Library" in Escondido, CA, which had many
of Hall's books on its shelves, including an oversized edition of "An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic, & Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy," not to mention hundreds of astrology books, and thousands of occult books.
In June 2004, Donna Cunningham forwarded a message from Will Dotson, who, Donna says was "closely associated with Manly Palmer Hall for many years" Dotson writes: "For Donna; Manly P Hall was born at 6:02 am and not the time mentioned. He is a double Pisces.I have personally retified Manly's chart from a list of all the major events in his life. After I told Manly his correct time, some years later Manly found a slip of paper in one of his drawers where his mother had written his time of birth. The time I had given Manly was the same as his mother"s." Formerly, AstroDatabank listed 4:57 AM as the time and here are the source notes: LMR quotes the Philosophical Research Society, 1983. The PRS wrote to LMR that the birth was between 5:00 and 6:00 AM, rectified by Paul Grell to 4:57 AM, a time accepted by Hall. Church of Light gave 2:08 AM EST from his own chart; rectified by him to an ASC of 29 Sagittarius 01. LeGros in Dell, 8/1958, gave 5:19 AM LMT, "according to his own data." PC quotes Sabian Symbols No.425 for 2:00 AM
On 29 July 2014 Kris Brandt wrote per email: "I was looking for Manly Hall's birth data for use in one of our publications and found his original membership application. On it he states March 18, 1901, 5:00 am, Toronto, Canada." This time was accepted as valid with rating A, from memory.
