Biography

American business executive, the vice president of theatrical production with Warner Bros motion picture company. With a record of bringing in multi-million-dollar hits, he has the power to OK or shelf a picture.

Guralnick began his career on the creative side of film making. After graduating from the film school at the California Institute of the Arts, he began work as a cameraman. His goal was to direct his own films, so in 1974 he made a documentary on legalized prostitution in Nevada, titled "Mustang." The film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Following his success, he worked on film projects for Paramount and Universal. He feels that understanding how the system works is crucial, and that the best movies are those who tell a story from the heart.

He directed his second film, "Portfolio" about the modeling business in New York. It failed to garner studio support and fell through the cracks. He soon arrived at a crossroad in his life. He received a job offer at CBS as an executive where he became a "buyer" rather than a "seller." His expertise paid off when he approved two projects, "Prince of Tides" and "Interview with the Vampire."

In 1989, Guralnick went to Warner Bros. as a vice president, soon moving up the ladder to executive president. In approving a project, he typically looks for stories about people, uplifting stories. He reads some ten scripts a week and oversees 25 projects a year. Pressure is intense with an average film production cost running to $50 million. He emphasizes the need for passion to succeed in your field.

Guralnick is the son of a Boston physician and grew up in Belmont. He attended Boston University and the Chicago Art Institute before moving to California. He is married to wife Katie with a son, Leland. He loves sports with golf his favorite form of relaxation.
