Biography

American actor who began his career on stage in 1945, made his Broadway debut in 1955 and his film debut in 1960. A versatile actor, he played bit parts and leading men, in classic roles and hit comedies with grace and aplomb. Renowned for being able to go from one emotional state to another as he was acting, he was the original male lead in Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" in 1962 and won a Tony for best actor in 1996 for his performance in another Albee drama, “A Delicate Balance.”

Grizzard's talents extended to film and television and he won an Emmy for his role in “The Oldest Living Graduate" (1980).
