Biography
Spanish artist, an engraver, etcher and lithographer, the most important painter of his day. As Court Painter in 1786, he became prosperous but never compromised his art. Goya was famed for his portraits and later portrayed the horrors of war.
As he aged, his work became darker, leaning toward nightmare subjects. He became deaf, and died of a stroke caused by post-viral disorder 4/16/1828, Bordeaux, Spain.
