Biography
American ecclesiastic, the second American to be named a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic church, in 1886. Ordained in 1861, he was a parish priest, Bishop, Vicar Apostolic, Bishop of Richmond, and Archbishop of Baltimore in 1877. He is the author of religious books that include "Faith of Our Fathers."
