Biography

Dutch master sculptor, woodcarver, artist with murals and paneling who left the finest craft of his age on English buildings, cathedrals and palaces. Employed by royalty and most of the nobility of his time, he worked under five monarchs. Gibbons characteristic motifs of flowers, fruit, birds, fish and musical instruments were exquisitely carved and beautifully arranged. He also executed stone ornamentation, marble monuments and a couple of bronze statues.

Died 8/03/1721, London.
