Biography

British novelist and playwright born in Russia because his dad was a British industrialist living there at the time. The Russian Revolution of 1917 would affect him and his family, and the event would serve as fodder for his first novel "Futility" (1922). Considered among the best and brightest talents of the 1920s, he aslso produced "The Polyglots" (1925) and Doom (1928). His novel "Resurrection" was published in 1940. The author of non-fiction as well, he wrote "God's Fifth Column: A Biography of the Age 1890-1940" and "Memoirs of a Polyglot: The Autobiography of William Gerhardie." He died in London on July 15, 1977, age 81.
