Biography
French political activist, a major personality in the events of the May 1968 revolution. During the eventful year, one of its most auspicious moments occurred when students and workers in France came close to toppling the Gaullist regime and achieving a real social transformation. In contrast to other events in the 20th century such as the Spanish revolution of 1936, May 1968 represents the only occasion when such an uprising occurred in an advanced industrial nation.
