Boris Cristoff submits data from documentation for December 11, 1882, but claims that Gardel was actually born on December 13, 1882.
Cristoff writes, "The date you have of Dec 13th is made up by Argentinians who wanted to collect his testamentary wealth. I am an old astrologer born in 1925, a writer of 31 books and biographer of Carlos Gardel's life, "Las 7 vidas de Gardel" (The Seven Lives of Gardel).
"I have six documents that proves a different official birth, and at last I will tell you the ultimate data, different form the official.
A) 1-His consulate inscription in Argentina in 1920 says born Dec.11, 1887,Tacuarembó, Uruguay.
2-His Identity Card in 1920 says born Dec.11, 1887,Tacuarembó, Uruguay.
3-His Citizen Card in Argentina in 1923 says born Dec.11, 1887,Tacuarembó, Uruguay.
4-His Enrolment Card in Buenos Aires says born Dec.11, 1887,Tacuarembó, Uruguay.
5-His "Carte Valable" in Paris for working in France says born Dec.11, 1887,Tacuarembó,Uruguay.
6-His scorched passport found in the plane where hi died in Medellín, Colombia, says born Dec.11,
"Charles Romuald Gardes is the son of Berta Gardes, a laundry woman who brought up Carlos Gardel along with her own son, but Charles and Carlos are two different persons.
Charles Gardes was an excellent pupil, went to France to the first World War and there was no more public record of him. The coincidence of the name Charles, which translated means Carlos, is because the real father of Carlos, Carlos Escayola Sr. had sexual relations with the Frenchwoman Berta Gardes. She was his servant, and after giving her Carlos to take him away, far from the scandal, he always paid her to raise the little Carlos. In recognition she named her son Charles.
"The boys were eight years apart. By the other hand, when Carlos could make at last his first document he declared being son of Carlos (Escayola) and María, but not Berta or any other name. Of all this there are documents, including a French permit for Carlos to sing and film in France. I can send you copies."
B) The Encyclopedia Britannica says about Carlos Gardel: "born either Dec.11,1887 in Tacuarembó, Uruguay, or Dec.11, 1890 in Toulouse, France.
C) The only two Gardel Congresses accepted that Gardel was Uruguayan born.
D) The "Academia Nacional del Tango" accepts that Gardel was Uruguay born.
E) In the airport of Medellín, where he died, there is a bronze plate for the brotherhood with Tacuarembó, his birth place.
"But surprise. He is born on Dec.13, 1882. He was superstitious about the 13th and celebrated his birthdays in different days. He also took five years less for surviving as a Latin lover, as written by his partner Razzano.
"As a proof I send you two copies of his scorched passport, and my natal card with his real birth data. See last line in "Gard 1931.jpg". (You can verify my credits in hundreds of archives in Google or Alltheweb.)
If you are a natural son of a father does not want to recognize you, you can not have a birth certificate. That is the position of Gardel. He was given to a French ironing woman named Berta Gardes who brought him to Buenos Aires. She had his own son named Charles Gardes, three years younger than Gardel, born on Dec.11 1890.
"Gardel was born on Dec.13 but for superstition he changed to 11, as told by his fiancée and other friends (there is published reports of newspapers). "His very first certificate was a consulate inscription, wich Argentina accepted on 8/10/1920. From this document in which he stated being son of Carlos (for Coronel Carlos Escayola) and María (for María Escayola), both from Tacuarembó, Uruguay, all the other documents were derived.
"By the other hand Encyclopedia Britannica gives as first option being born on Dec.11, 1887 in Tacuarembó, Uruguay. The Argentinian "Academia Nacional del Tango" and the two Gardel congresses (Colombia and Cuba) agree with a Uruguayan Gardel. The date of Dec.11 1890 is in error as that is the date of his half-brother, Charles Gardes, born later in France. He always declared Dec.11 1887, Tac.Uruguay, and I have two dozens of newspapers reports in which he declared the same data. He never declared 1890 and nor Toulouse."
