Biography
American physician with a passionate concern for human life. Raised in an affectionate, mutually supportive, cultured family, he was the son of a stockbroker. In 1970 he earned his medical degree and in 1978, a Ph.D. He married Tamar, an Israeli archaeologist whom he met in Jerusalem in 1974; three kids. The family converses in Hebrew at their home in Bel Air.
When the Chernobyl disaster occurred on 4/25/1986, Gale applied immediately to offer his services. He took a team of three to work with the Soviet team to save radiation victims with bone-marrow transplants, making three intense work trips. Gale was awed at the possibility of Chernobyl as the image of humanity's future.
