Biography

American ecclesiastic, a Roman Catholic Bishop, who, on April 29, 2004, the eve of his installation as Bishop of Camden, NJ, claimed that he would not serve Holy Communion to Governor James E. McGreevey. According to Bishop Galante, took the position because McGreevey remarried without receiving a church-endorsed annulment as well as the fact that McGreevey's voting record supports abortion rights, stem-cell research and other positions that are seen in contradiction to church views.

Galante was installed on April 30, 2004 in Blackwood, NJ.

McGreevey was invited to the installation but did not attend. Bishop Galante claimed that if McGreevey had come to the eservice, the Bishop would have blessed him but denied him Communion.

Before becoming bishop of the Camden diocese in NJ, Galante spent four years as coadjutor bishop in Dallas. He holds a Doctorate in Canon Law (1968, Lateran University, Rome) and a Master of Arts in Spiritual Theology (1991, University of St. Thomas, Angelicum, Rome).
