Biography
American government executive, the Undersecretary of the Navy, 1940-44, Secretary of the Navy, 1944-47 and U.S. Secretary of Defense, July 1947 to March 1949. He resigned in 1949 from overwork and exhaustion. On 5/22/1949, he committed suicide by jumping out of a window, Bethesda, MD.
