Biography
British dancer, one of the world's outstanding ballerinas for 45 years. Fonteyn began dance lessons at 4 and entered Sadler Wells ballet school at 14 with a debut the following year. She met Nureyev in 1962 and their dance partnership was legendary. In 1956, she was knighted, becoming a Dame of the British Empire. She met Roberto Arias at Cambridge in 1936; 20 years later they met again when he was the Panamanian Ambassador to England, and they married. Her husband was partially paralyzed from a gunshot wound in 6/1964.
Fonteyn died of cancer 2/21/1991, Panama.

Old-file has 1:15 AM. Dana Holliday spoke to Fontyn at a dinner party and Dame Margot said she did not know her time of birth. Fowler's gives 2:15 AM as "approximate time from her, accuracy uncertain." In May 2008, Shelley Jordan writes, "In her biography "Margot Fonteyn", page 9 (Viking, 2004), Meredith Daneman states that Margot was born between 4 and 5 AM, on May 18, 1919. Numerous sources agree that she was born in Reigate, England. The author does not give a source for the birth information. This is
considered the authoritative biography of the ballerina, and was based on Margot's mother's unpublished autobiography and
conversations with Margot herself."
