Biography
German professor at Hamburg from 1948-1973. He was a historian who aroused bitter controversy with his publication in 1961 of his book, "Germany's Aims in the First World War." His thesis was strongly attacked by other German historians, but opened up a new vision.
In 1969, his second book, "War of Illusions" continued his premise with new material and further findings on German foreign policy between 1911-1914. He died December 1, 1999 in Hamburg, Germany; he was 91.
