Biography

Italian film director whose films are based with an absurd sense of humor and grotesque settings. Ferreri was educated at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and from 1953, started directing with Zavattini in a documentary. A short time period found him working in Spain with writer Rafael Azcona before returning to Italy for his own productions. Ferreri has been awarded the Critics' Prize, Cannes Film Festival in 1973, Silver Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival in 1980, the Golden Bear Award in 1991 and the Pietro Bianchi in 1992. He died of a heart attack May 9, 1997 in Paris, age 68.
