Biography
American athlete, pro football player, he won the Heisman trophy in 1961. Considered one of the best college football players at the time, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in . In his second season he suffered a severe head injury and retired from pro football. Returning to school, he earned a master's degree in sociology and became a youth counselor. In 1996 he was inducted into the College Hall of Fame.
He died of complications from diabetes in Columbus, OH on December 30, 2004.
