Biography

American actress of stage and screen, she has performed in a number of films and plays and is often seen on television as well. Her more noted TV roles include a defense attorney on the long-running "Law and Order." She toured with her one-person show "Tovah: Out Of Her Mind" for two years and in October 2004 performed in another one-person show "Golda's Balcony" which premiered on October 3, 2004 and became the longest-running solo act to hit Broadway. For her work she has received a number of awards including an Obie and four Drama Desk Awards and several Tony nominations.

A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, she has taught at various universities, including Yale, Cornell and New York University. In June 2005 she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. For her wiork with Seeds of Peace, she was awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitas Award and the Israel Peace Medal.

Married since 1977, she and her husband, attorney Andrew Harris Levy, have two children.
