Biography

Brazilian economist, President Collor's advisor and influence peddler. In 1992, when Collor was involved in charges of corruption, Farias was indicted in more than nine different financial crimes in September. He was the treasurer of the presidential campaign and the main beneficiary of the high-level corruption that eventually led to Collor's impeachment, worth some $400 million U.S.

Farias had been married and was a widower; his wife Elma had died on 7/20/1994 in Brasilia. His current girlfriend was Suzana Marcolino (born 8/04/1949, Palestine), a possible call-girl.

Scheduled to go to prison, Farias was instead murdered on 6/23/1996 between 5:00 and 10:00 AM in his beach house in Maceio, along with Suzana Marcolino, lying by his side. The Brazilian press had a field day with the lurid scandal as his death implied that he was the living file of every possible level of misbehavior and corruption of the Collor government.
