Biography
German wandering craftsman, a carpenter and cabinet maker. He joined a militant group in 1928-1929. Reserved and slow-spoken, as a lone resister he devised a plan to assassinate Hitler single-handedly. He carefully accumulated a pile of explosives and hid his mechanism in a wooden column behind the speaker's rostrum where Hitler was to speak 11/08/1939. The explosive went off, but 10 minutes after Hitler had left the podium, at 9:20 PM. It killed seven and wounded 63 people. Elser was arrested and held; he was moved to Dachau in 1944 and finally killed 4/09/1945.
