Biography
Romanian author, philosopher, religious historian..
A philosopher first, he was fascinated by religions and the mystical and mythical. His doctoral thesis was on yoga and its mystical origins. It was later published as "Yoga, Immortality, and Freedom."
Eliade moved to Paris in 1945 and in 1958 he moved to the US to assume the position of Chair of the History of Religions Department at the University of Chicago.
He died in Chicago on April 23, 1986.
