Biography

German engineer and airship pioneer who helped Count Von Zeppelin's firm to develop rigid airships. He piloted the Graf Zeppelin flight around the world in 1929 and commanded the Hindenberg which dramatically and unexpectedly burned while landing 5/06/1937. The tragedy, which took many lives of passengers and crew, virtually ended rigid airship travel.

He died 8/14/1954, Friedrichshafen, Germany.
