Biography
American writer and educator, he taught at the University of North Carolina from 1946-1952. He served as vice-consul in Brazil from 1942-1946. His body of work includes several volumes of poetry along with short stories and essays. In 1988, the state of North Carolina awarded him the state's highest literary prize.
He married Isabel Patterson in 1950; they had no children.. He died on March 23, 2006.
