Thomas Eagleton

American politician, the Senator from Missouri who was the Vice-presidential running mate of George McGovern in 1972.

He had been hospitalized for depression, requiring shock treatments, a news item that came out disastrously when he was running for office. Despite its negative effects on his campaign, his bout with depression helped Eagleton to learn from adversity. As of 1999, he was a lawyer in St. Louis, MO.

Eagleton died in St. Louis on March 4, 2007 at age 77. His death was attributed to a combination of heart, respiratory and other health problems.
