Biography
American military, a career Navy man who rose through the ranks to become a four-star Admiral. He saw active duty during WWII and after that held a variety of positions. On September 30, 1970 he was named Nato's Supreme Allied Commander and US Commander in Chief for the Atlantic division. He retired from the Navy on November 1, 1972.
He died of cancer in La Jolla, CA on June 27, 1994.
