Biography
French writer and intellectual; a left-wing and Catholic thinker.
In 1957, he took over as editor of Esprit, the literary and political journal of personalism founded in 1945 by Emmanuel Mounier and continued from 1950 to 1957 by Albert Béguin. He retired voluntarily from this aged 54, then writing and teaching at university level.
He died in Paris on 5 July 1997 aged 75.
