Biography
German Third Reich press chief 1933-45, Hitler's constant companion and his chief publicity agent. A volunteer on the Western front in WW I, he was awarded the Iron Cross. He earned a doctorate in political science in 1921 and became an editor and newspaper manager. A dedicated Nazi, he served as Geobbel's state secretary, joined the SS and organized great propaganda campaigns.
Physically a small man; he made an influential marriage. His first book was "Mit Hitler an die Macht," (Hitler and Power) 1933, a best seller. His "Twelve Years With Hitler" was published posthumously. Dietrich was imprisoned in 1945 and sentenced on April 1949 to seven years prison for war crimes; released 8/16/1950 for good behavior.
