Biography
American gangster, shot to death by rival gang while in bed with show-girl lover in a hotel in Albany. From a Catholic family, he formed his first gang when just a kid. He revered his mom but when she died, he was age 12 and all control over the boy was lost. He hated work and found that he could outrun the cops while carrying stolen goods. That and a love for dancing gave him his nickname.
At 18, he eloped with his 16-year old girlfriend, who left him after a few beatings. In 1926 he married Alice Schiffer, 24, but his main interest was showgirls. He was the mob's most notorious stage-door Johnny.
A shake-down mobster, he cultivated a number of enemies, actually taking bullets on 10/25/1927 and recovering nicely. On 12/16/1931, his rivals finally caught up to him with three slugs in the head and neck. The law never had enough evidence to make an arrest.
