Biography

French filmmaker, a director, producer and screenwriter. Deville’s focus on traditional technical proficiency and his tendency to choose subject matter primarily based on its commercial value resulted in movies that were often dull and routine. Two of his films, the political thriller "Dossier 51," 1978 and "La Letrice," 1988, proved exceptions to that criticism.

In the early 1950s, Deville worked as an assistant director to Henri Decoin. In 1958, he co-directed "Une Balle Dans Le Canon" with Charles Gerard, and finally in 1960, he took the reins solo, directing "Ce Soir Ou Jamais," which he also produced. He worked steadily through the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
