Biography

American science fiction writer first published in April 1938 with a short story, "The Faithful" in "Astounding Tales." His early life had hard years in which he tried many jobs, always maintaining his interest in sci-fi. His books "Nerves" was published in 1942.

Del Rey became the editor of Space Sci-Fi magazine but resigned in 1953 over conflicts with the publisher. He wrote for magazines and several short novels under the pseudonyms Philip St. John and Erik Van Lhin. managing editor of "Galaxy" 1968. In mid-1968 he joined the staff of Galaxy publications as a managing editor.

He died May 10, 1993 in New York City, age 77.
