Biography
American writer. A maritime lawyer, sailor, novelist and politician, the author of "Two Years Before the Mast,." 1840. He based his classic novel on diary that he kept as a sailor. He also wrote "A Seaman's Friend," 1841, to help seamen know their rights when seeking claims.
Died 1/06/1882, Rome, Italy.
