Biography
Scottish race car driver, eclipsing Damon Hill in a 1997 championship.
He and his American fiancé Heidi Winchelski had a miraculous escape on 5/02/2000 when their Lear-jet crash landed at Lyon Airport, c. 2:30 PM, killing the plane's pilot and co-pilot. Coulthard was left with bruised and possibly broken ribs, which did not prevent him from taking pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona four days later.
A month later, 6/01/2000, he was once more in a plane crash in which the pilot was killed but he and jockey Frankie Dettori escaped with their lives.
