Biography
Spanish cyclist and three-time winner of the Tour de France, in 2007, 2009 and 2010. He holds other titles as well, including winner of the 2011 Giro d'Italia.
He turned professional in 2003. In May 2004 he was severely injured when he fell in the Asturias tour. The fall was caused by convulsions he suffered as a result of a congenital vascular disorder. After recovery from surgery he returned to training by the end of the year.
He has faced allegations of taking illegal performance-enhancing drugs.
