Biography
American country-western singer, known for having the "saddest voice in modern country music." Raised on a tobacco farm, by his early teens Conlee was a member of a folk trio which segued into rock music. Conlee worked as a mortician for six years and did a stint as a D.J. before he moved to Nashville in 1971 for a job as a D.J. in a rock station. While there, he was able to make the contacts that led him to signing with ABC records.
His fourth release, "Rose Colored Glasses," was impressive, making Country's Top-5 in May 1978. Conlee went on to a dozen top-10 hits, chart toppers such as "Lady Lay Down" and "Domestic Life." By the '80s he began to tour regularly with live shows and TV.
