Biography
American power outage that left 50 million people in several U.S. states as well as Canada without power for several days.
At 4:06 PM on that day, a shift supervisor at the New York independent System Operator, the nerve center of the state's power grid, saw something on the big monitor in the room--a large amount of power flowing from New York toward Ontario, Canada through the underground and overhead transmission cables. He thought a power plant had gone down, but seconds later, he witnessed an 800-megawatt surge reversing itself, hurtling back toward New York. Emergency sirens began to scream, office buildings went black people were stuck in elevators, and many were stranded in the city or in subway trains because all electric systems, including the subway, were shut down. Power grids all across the region, including New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio and much of Ontario had failed within three minutes of the onset at 4:06.PM EDT. Terror
