Biography
British composer and viola player who specialized in semi-classical works for orchestra. Among his songs and instrumental pieces, "Sleepy Lagoon," 1930 and "London Suite," 1933 were highly popular. Formerly a member of the Hambourg String Quartet, he was a first violinist with major symphonies 1912-1918, playing on international tours and radio performances.
Coates died 12/21/1957, Chichester, England of a stroke at age 71
