Duchess Consort of Lorraine Claude

Biography

French royalty, the second daughter of King Henry II of France and Catherine de' Medici. She was married on 19 January 1559, at the age of 11, to Charles III, Duke of Lorraine who suffered from a hunchback and club foot. Very discreet, she was Catherine de' Medici's favourite daughter. Claude and her husband had nine children. Claude of Valois died in childbirth on 21 February 1575 in Nancy.
