Biography
New Zealand politician, the new Prime Minister at the beginning of the millennium. From a wealthy (Tory) background, she rebelled against her parents' politics in university by becoming a socialist. She holds an MA in political science. She is thin-faced, angular and serious in manner with a great reserve.
On 11/27/1999, she defeated former P.M. Jenny Shipley, announced at 11:50 PM, Nethven, NZ. Labour and The Alliance won enough seats to form a Centre Lert Government and a Coalition Agreement between Labour and Alliance was signed on 12/06/1999 at the Legislative Chamber of Parliament, Wellington.
