Biography
U.S. city. Population 466,591 (1999) +11.9% 1990-1999. County seat of Pima County.
Incorporation as a city: Feb. 7, 1877
Incorporation as a city was approved on February 7, 1877 but the act states that it was earlier incorporated as a village (1877 Territory of Arizona Acts, No. 47, pp. 52-65).
The Arizona Historical Society and the Tucson library claim that it was incorporated by a proclamation of the Governor of the Territory of Arizona on May 8, 1864 but the Arizona State Library cannot confirm this date and has no documentation for it.
