Earliest incorporation as "Great Salt Lake City": Jan. 19, 1851

Name changed to Salt Lake City: Jan. 29, 1868
Earliest incorporation as "Great Salt Lake City" was passed by the General Assembly of the State of Deseret on January 9, 1851 and was approved by Governor Brigham Young January 19, 1851 (1851 State of Deseret Laws and Ordinances at pp. 8-15). This act specified that the first election was held on April 7, 1851 with the polls open at 9:00 am (ibid).
Incorporation as "Great Salt Lake City" by the Territory of Utah was approved January 20, 1860, repealing the earlier ordinance by the State of Deseret (1860 Territory of Utah Laws at pp. 7-21).
The name was changed from Great Salt Lake City (and the county with the same name) by an act that was approved January 29, 1868 (1868 Territory of Utah Laws, Chapter 3, p. 2).
The seat of government was moved there from Filmore City by a resolution approved December 15, 1856 (1856 Territory of Utah Laws at pp. 3-4).
